Why Does My GFCI Outlet Keep Tripping Randomly Without Load?
A GFCI can trip “with no load” if it senses even a small ground fault on the circuit. Moisture in kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoors can cause this. Hidden downstream devices or a GFCI breaker protecting the whole circuit can also be the source. Loose or worn connections, sparking receptacles, or a failing GFCI device will trigger trips. Berkeys electricians troubleshoot wiring, test circuits, and replace worn components. We can also install a GFCI breaker to protect the entire circuit. We serve Carrollton, Plano, and Frisco.
Quick checks:
- Press Test/Reset on the GFCI.
- Unplug everything on that circuit and let outlets dry.
- If it won’t reset or the cover feels warm, stop using it and call.
