Can I replace an electrical outlet myself safely and correctly?

You can replace a basic outlet yourself if you shut off power, verify no voltage, and swap like-for-like. Use GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor areas, near pools, and other wet locations. A typical outlet install takes about 30 minutes per outlet. If wiring is damaged, the outlet is warm or sparking, or a new GFCI or breaker is needed, hire a licensed electrician (TECL695440). We handle code compliance and call the city for inspection after installations. 24/7 help is available for urgent hazards.
