What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

A leak from the top usually means a loose or failed connection at the inlet/outlet, T&P discharge piping, or anode/recirculation ports. Turn off the cold-water valve and shut power (set gas to off or switch off the breaker). We offer 24/7 water heater service, certified diagnosis, free estimates, and repairs in San Diego and Chula Vista.

  • Dry the area and watch for drips at flex lines and fittings.
  • Do not remove covers if you smell gas.
  • Catch water in a pan and clear nearby items.
  • Photograph the data plate for our technician.
