What causes a light switch to stop working but light stays on?
A light that stays on when the switch does nothing usually means the switch has failed or is bypassed. Other causes include a miswired or shared 3-way switch, a stuck smart bulb or module, or a shorted fixture or switch loop.
- Test the other 3-way switch, if present.
- Remove any smart bulb or add-on and retest.
