What Is Considered an Electrical Service Upgrade for Homeowners?

An electrical service upgrade replaces and upsizes the equipment that brings power into your home. It typically increases capacity (often to 200 amps, or 400 amps for larger loads), installs a new breaker panel, upgrades the meter, and replaces outside service wiring and the meter enclosure. We verify the home’s grounding system. Many Columbus homes also add AFCI/GFCI protection and a whole-home surge protector during the upgrade. It focuses on the panel and service, not whole-house rewiring. Power is usually off 4–8 hours.
