What Is Considered An Electrical Emergency At Home?

An at-home electrical emergency is any issue that poses an immediate shock, fire, or power-loss risk.

  • Significant sparking from outlets or fixtures.
  • Loud electrical noises or banging.
  • Sudden, rapid flashing lights.
  • Total or partial power loss.
  • Burning smells, hot outlets, or scorch marks.
  • Flooding that may reach wiring, outlets, or panels.
  • Storm damage to the service mast, meter, or panel.
  • After surges, arc-faults, or ground-fault trips. If there’s an active electrical fire, call 911 first, then call an emergency electrician once it’s out.
