Can I fix a leaking pipe myself using epoxy putty or tape?

Epoxy putty or repair tape can temporarily stop a small pipe leak, but they are not a permanent fix. Most DIY patches fail over time because pressure, vibration, or corrosion prevents putty or tape from bonding well, especially near fittings.

In the Rillito area, our plumbers can non-invasively locate the exact leak and make lasting repairs using quality materials after a clear, flat-rate quote.

Use these quick guidelines:

  • Suitable for: a pinhole or slow seep on a straight section of pipe with the water off and the line depressurized.
  • Call a pro now if: the pipe continues to spray after shutoff, water stains spread through a ceiling or foundation, the leak is at a joint or crack, or you suspect a sewer line issue.
  • If you patch: clean to bare metal or plastic, dry fully, apply per product instructions, and allow full cure before repressurizing.

Always depressurize the line and close the main shut-off before attempting any patch.
