Why Does My GFCI Outlet Keep Tripping Randomly Without Load?

It usually trips because the GFCI is sensing a ground fault from wiring or the device itself, even with nothing plugged in. Common causes include moisture in the box (typical outdoors or bathrooms), a shared or reversed neutral, downstream outlets with a fault, a loose connection, or a failing GFCI. Outdoor receptacles need weatherproof boxes/covers. We can test the circuit, check downstream devices, and replace the GFCI if needed. Same-day repairs are common in McKinney and nearby.

  • Quick checks: Press Reset, inspect for moisture, try a new GFCI, and test downstream outlets.
