Why Is My Electrical Outlet Not Working But Breaker Not Tripped?

A breaker can be on and an outlet still dead if an upstream GFCI has tripped, the receptacle failed, a loose backstabbed wire opened the circuit, or the outlet is a half‑hot controlled by a wall switch. Storm or surge damage can also break a connection without tripping the breaker. Our licensed electricians troubleshoot and repair these issues across DFW, same day when needed.

Quick checks:

  • Press RESET on all GFCI outlets (garage, baths, exterior, kitchen).
  • Try the device on another outlet.
  • Flip nearby wall switches (half‑hot test).
  • Look for signs of heat or damage; stop if found.
