Why Does My Circuit Breaker Keep Tripping With Nothing Plugged In?

A breaker that trips with nothing plugged in usually points to a wiring fault or a hardwired load on the circuit. It can also be a failing breaker. In Austin-area homes, we often find loose connections, a short to ground, moisture in an outlet, GFCI/AFCI trips, or another device downstream still drawing power. Avoid repeatedly resetting the breaker. Schedule a home electrical inspection every 3–5 years. Our licensed electricians follow NEC guidelines and offer 24/7 emergency service.

  • Quick checks: Try a different breaker slot only if safe, test GFCI/AFCI buttons, and look for signs of heat or moisture.
